What inspired you to join the US Navy in the in the first place?
Honestly, I have always wanted to serve my country. That answer gets laughed at by some, but it’s true. I was 22 years old and between jobs when I enlisted, and I just knew it was “now or never”. I had previously looked at the Army, but something clicked when I visited a Navy recruiter.
What were some of the challenges you have faced in the Navy?
I’d say the biggest ones are the distance from my family and the challenges that come from leading people. When it comes to my family, my father passed away in 2020, and I wish I had had more time to spend with him. But I’m fortunate that I was given the chance to be there at the end when not every service member does. When it comes to leading, it is a big adjustment to be responsible for others and help them through challenges in an aspects of their lives in the way a good military leader should be.
What made you decide to reenlist?
I want to continue my journey. At this point, I feel pretty strongly that I will make a career out of the Navy. A healthy bonus helped too.
How has your experience in the Navy impacted your life outside of the Military?
I can’t even begin to describe how it’s changed every aspect of my life. I grew up in a small town trailer park, but now I’ve seen many states and cities, Africa, and Europe... I’ve even drank liquor on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial!
What advice would you won universal to someone considering joint the Navy?
Do your research, know what jobs you’d be willing to sign up for, and be ready to make sacrifices. There is no way anyone could tell you everything you’re going to go through. Be flexible and resilient.
